Summary
Rieko Chacey is a Baltimore-based multimedia artist who has a professional background in graphic design, motion design, video editing, interactive design and illustration. Her works have been exhibited at NYC Big Screen Plaza, Baltimore Visitor Center, Kawasaki City Centennial Anniversary Concert in Japan, SNF Parkway Theater, The Asian Arts Culture Center, Atrium Artspace, Area 405 and Bogus Gallery. She has taught time-based media and interactive media courses in various higher education institutions while working as a freelancer as well as an artist.

Atrium Artspace Second Anniversary Performance Night

A night of music, experimental film and projection performance by the five artists, BlissArmyKnife, The Bysons, Rieko Chacey, Matt Barry and Ryan Smith. Rieko presented the 20-minutes anti-ICE performance with projection, i’m’migrant. In addition, tides, her 20-minutes experimental film was screened while Ryan Smith, the multimedia artist, performed experimental music accompanying it.

SOLARPUNK

The work, i’mPlant [ɪmˈplɑːnt], was displayed in a climate action and environmental justice art incubator, Crow’s Nest Baltimore’s group show, SOLARPUNK.
We can’t be what we can’t see. As fascism destroys our social systems, the ability to imagine a way out is vital– we cannot simply return to the neoliberal structures that failed us and allowed the climate crisis in the first place. What does a liberated world look like? How will we live?
Solarpunk is an artistic movement that seeks to answer these questions. Artists from Baltimore to Mauritius, and from over 70 submissions we proudly present our vision of Solarpunk, featuring 27 works from 19 artists spanning painting, photography, sculpture, film and animation.

ICE Out of Baltimore

The work, Dissonance, was displayed in this art exhibition featuring over 100 works of art by Baltimore artists who are using their work to uplift the fight for immigrant rights and to demand ICE OUT OF BALTIMORE! From Palestine to Mexico, all the border walls have got to go! Baltimore Artists Against Apartheid curated the show. 100% of proceeds from artwork sold was donated to
Central Maryland Immigrant Rights Collective.

The works, Imbibition, and Explosion, were exhibited in the Transform: The Future We’re Creating, at Wide Angle Youth Media, the 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Through media arts education, Wide Angle Youth Media collaborates with and amplifies the voices of Baltimore youth to engage audiences across social divides.

A part of the works from Nocturnal Growth was displayed in this exhibition. Animators from Baltimore, Philadelphia, and beyond were invited to share animation-adjacent artwork. The assembled works span techniques throughout animation history from the earliest motion toys to contemporary video art.

Atrium Artspace proudly presents Nocturnal Reflection, a solo exhibition by Baltimore-based mixed media artist Rieko Chacey that expresses the artist’s life experience as an immigrant, educator, and artist. Nocturnal Reflection transports the viewer into the quiet solitude and creative freedom found late at night.

ARTSCAPE Windows on Charles at SNF Parkway Theater

My three animations, Blooming, Ring de Kaleidoscope and Rise Up were projected on the storefront windows the storefront windows on North Avenue and Charles Street as a part of Artscape 2024 program called Windows on Charles.


30,000 Leagues In Search of My Sister (邦題:姉を訪ねて三万里)
July 2024–March 2025
Collaborating with VisitBaltimore, the animation I directed, wrote the screenplay, animated, and appeared as one of the voice actors, was shown along with Mayor Brandon Scott’s video message at Kawasaki City’s Multi-Cultural Coexistence Forum concert on July 6th in International Cultural Exchange Center in Kawasaki City, Kanagawa prefecture in Japan. The concert was a part of Kawasaki City’s international festival. It was free of charge, performed by a quartet from the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, followed by a panel discussion. This animation was posted on Visit Baltimore’s YouTube channel. An article was written about it on the Kawasaki City website. It was presented at the Kick-off event of Japanese Film Program by The Asian Arts & Culture Center. It has been on display in the lobby of The Visitor Center in Baltimore in 2024-2025.
