Summary
Rieko Chacey is a Baltimore-based multimedia artist who has a professional background in graphic design, motion design, video editing, interactive design and illustration. Her works have been exhibited at NYC Big Screen Plaza, Baltimore Visitor Center, Kawasaki City Centennial Anniversary Concert in Japan, SNF Parkway Theater, The Asian Arts Culture Center, Atrium Artspace and Area 405. She has taught time-based media and interactive media courses in various higher education institutions while working as a freelancer as well as an artist.

Transform: The Future We’re Creating is a fundraiser show celebrating growth and creative futures of Wide Angle Youth Media, the 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Through media arts education, Wide Angle Youth Media collaborates with and amplifies the voices of Baltimore youth to engage audiences across social divides.

Sweaty Eyeballs Exhibition: Hands of the Artists

Area 405 Gallery in Station North Arts District
Animators from Baltimore, Philadelphia, and beyond were invited to share animation-adjacent artwork ready to spill over from the screen and into the gallery. The assembled works span techniques throughout animation history from the earliest motion toys to contemporary video art.

Solo Show: Nocturnal Reflection

Atrium Artspace proudly presents “Nocturnal Reflection”, a solo exhibition by Baltimore-based mixed media artist Rieko Chacey that expresses the artist’s life experience as an educator, artist, and immigrant. “Nocturnal Reflection” transports the viewer into the quiet solitude and creative freedom found late at night.

A fun and creative exploration that includes sharing, writing and art-making for Asian Pacific Islander Middle Eastern Desi American (APIMEDA) folks and friends. Facilitated by Dr. Sel Hwahng (Towson University Assistant Professor of Women, Gender, Health, and Sexuality) and Rieko Chacey (Multimedia artist and Towson University faculty of Graphic Design & Interactive Media, VFX and Animation).

Solo Show: Nocturnal Growth at Carver Center for the Arts and Technology

Experimentation and study of light reflections from a series of projected animations on different textures of materials such as mirrors, glass, fabrics, threads and papers.

SNF Parkway Theater Openings—Windows on Charles at SNF Parkway Theater

My three animations, Blooming, Ring de Kaleidoscope and Rise Up were shown in SNF Parkway Theater on the weekend as a part of their opening program.

ARTSCAPE Windows on Charles at SNF Parkway Theater

My three animations, Blooming, Ring de Kaleidoscope and Rise Up were projected on the storefront windows the storefront windows on North Avenue and Charles Street as a part of Artscape 2024 program called Windows on Charles.


30,000 Leagues In Search of My Sister (邦題:姉を訪ねて三万里)
July 2024–March 2025
Collaborating with VisitBaltimore, the animation I directed, wrote the screenplay, animated, and appeared as one of the voice actors, was shown along with Mayor Brandon Scott’s video message at Kawasaki City’s Multi-Cultural Coexistence Forum concert on July 6th in International Cultural Exchange Center in Kawasaki City, Kanagawa prefecture in Japan. The concert was a part of Kawasaki City’s international festival. It was free of charge, performed by a quartet from the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, followed by a panel discussion. This animation was posted on Visit Baltimore’s YouTube channel. An article was written about it on the Kawasaki City website. It was presented at the Kick-off event of Japanese Film Program by The Asian Arts & Culture Center. It has been on display in the lobby of The Visitor Center in Baltimore in 2024-2025.

The digital collage, “Love + Home + Baltimore” was shown as one of the 33 artists with a APIMEDIA (Asian, Pacific Islander, Middle Eastern and Desi American) background from DC, Maryland and Virginia states area.

Selected as one of the 14 best works, the animation, “Ring de Kaleidoscope” was shown at Big Screen Plaza for 3 weeks and at Arthouse.NYC for 2 weeks in New York City.
